The Benefits of Yoga
by Susan Guzman
It's really incredible that these small coincidences happen just when you need them most. About 3 months ago I woke up one morning with the most excruciating pain in my left shoulder. I just assumed that I slept on it the wrong way and it would feel better in a few days. Well 3 months later not only doesn't it feel better, but now my right shoulder hurts as well. The pain sometimes shoots down my arm, other times the range of motion just feels very tight and limited, and sometimes its a burning sensation. I was an avid yoga practitioner for many years up until very recently when I begun a walking routine and also bought a mini trampoline to use in my home. I have been trying to save money and cut corners and I just figured I would eliminate practicing yoga at a studio to cut back on expenses. Well in light of my recent shoulder pains I decided to go back to the yoga studio and rejoin now that the Fall is upon us and I don't do much in the winter months anyway. Today was my first day back. When I first began stretching, I could feel the pain radiating down from my shoulder down my arm. I felt stiff and I was afraid I was doing it more harm that good. By the end of the class the pain was almost completely gone. It has been over 6 hours now since I took the class and I am feeling perfectly fine. So when I say that it is incredible that I would have such a coincidence I was talking about coming across this article this evening about the Benefits of Yoga. So this just reinforced my decision to go back to practicing yoga. I will have to find some area to cut back on to save money. But the way I see it, the benefits far outweigh the expense of it. I mean really, can you put a price on your health and well being? Not in my book you can't. Read the article, if you never tried yoga, you may want to consider it. If you practice yoga already, I am sure you will likely continue, or if you are like me, then its time to return to practicing yoga. Here's to your health.http://blog.seattlepi.com/timigustafsonrd/2011/09/09/the-many-health-benefits-of-yoga/
